"Fourth Wing will have your heart pounding from beginning to end... A fantasy like you've never read before." ―#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

The Empyrean series is best enjoyed in order.

The book was mediocre. It had too many similarities to The Hunger Games and Harry Potter. The sex scenes were unnecessary as well. I will not continue this series. It feels like it's more geared towards readers in the 25-40 age group..

A good kind of romantic slow burn that has the perfect amount of action, humour, and violence to add to the intensity of the story. Loved this book and cannot wait to start the next one!

3.5/5 strap in as a try to write a review that does my conflicting feelings justice. i sat on this one for a day or two to let it sit before deciding how i felt. i still feel like i’m having a difficult time differentiating between what i wanted the book to be - and what it at times was - and what it actually was. there was SO much potential here that it hurts. it felt like all of the parts of the plot i became invested in were so close to being what i need them to be, but not quite there. in my humble opinion, there was too much emphasis and time spent building aspects of the plot that inevitably didn’t matter (her friendship with rhiannon? her signet? and i’m sorry but, her relationship with xaden?) not that i didn’t enjoy these things, but if the twist of the novel was revolved around the rebellion and the truth behind it, why wasn’t there more energy spent making me want to care about it in the first place? i will say, her ability to write an action scene is *impeccable*. i flew through them and was covering the bottoms of each page as i went. i just wish that she had given me more of a reason to care about the outcome of them. the revelation of brennan being alive was enough to have me just intrigued enough to pick up the sequel i fear. please don’t let me down ms yarros
